Fur Marble Shine, Textiles, 2011
The design of the fabric is inspired by the paintings of Dutch artist Jan Vermeer. Upon closer examination the frequent appearance of black and white tiles in the painted interiors is clearly noticeable. In contrast, one can find rich ornamental curtains that are sidelined to allow the recipient a look inside the room. The fabric attempts to translate the material contrast seen in the paintings into a tangible form. The fabric consists of three different layers: furry, shiny and marbled.
The coat was shown as part of the exhibition Shanghai Gesture at the Museum Willet-Holthuysen, Amsterdam in 2011. Curated by Alexander van Slobbe.
